SID ELECTIONS
Elections for the SID board are held every two years. Ballots will be mailed to property owners in August with results being released in September.
ALGEA
Lawn fertilizers containing phosphorous are largely responsible for algae problems in our lakes. Once in the lakes, this phosphorous never goes away. It continues to accumulate and the more there is, the greater the threat it poses. When purchasing fertilizers, please look for fertilizers with “0” Phosphorus (middle number on bag).
If you use a lawn service, please inform them of our ban on phosphorus fertilizers.
At the March 2010 SID meeting, the board authorized an aggressive treatment plan (costing in excess of $8,000) to keep our lakes algae free. Unfortunately, as long as residents use fertilizers with phosphorous, the algae threat will continue to grow, requiring continued efforts and expense to control. Everyone’s assistance in dealing with this problem is appreciated!
Should an algae bloom occur, stay out of thick algae and keep your animals from drinking it. If you do come in contact with blue green algae rinse off with fresh water. Don't drink the water and avoid any situation that could lead to swallowing the water. The symptoms from external exposure to humans (prolonged contact with skin) are skin rashes (lesions and blisters in extreme cases). Symptoms from ingestion can include headaches, nausea, muscular pains central abdominal pain , diarrhea and vomiting. The severity of the illness is related to the amount of water ingested and the concentrations of the toxins.
Not all blooms of blue green algae are going to be toxic, but we will react to an algae bloom as if it is toxic and treat it immediately.
ENTRY WAY LAWN
This fall, we will replace the entry way lawn with a new fine blade fescue grass that will require less watering and give us a beautiful lawn this spring and hopefully for years to come. We apologize for the appearance of the lawn during this transition period, however this short term inconvenience will produce a much more attractive lawn in the future.
